Cultivation of diamonds refers to the use of artificial methods to simulate the crystallization characteristics of natural diamonds generated and manufactured diamonds, and natural diamonds are no different in nature. In recent years, international jewelry giants De Beers, Swarovski, Pandora, etc., have launched a series of diamond products, and China has also emerged LightMark and other fashion brands to follow up the layout. Overall, the industry shows rapid growth.

The profit margin of the upstream and downstream of the diamond industry chain is the highest, about 60%, and the midstream processing is only 10%. The upstream rough stone is mainly grown by HPHT method and CVD method. In 2020, the global cultivated diamond production capacity is about 6-7 million carats, of which Chinese manufacturers account for about 50% of the total production capacity, and monopolize almost all the HPHT production capacity, mainly including strength diamond, Yellow River Cyclone, Zhongan Diamond, Yu Diamond and so on. China has a strong voice in the upstream of the industrial chain.

Cultivated diamonds have obvious price advantages compared with natural diamonds, and the current retail price has been able to achieve about 35% of natural diamonds, greatly reducing the diamond purchase threshold. Liu Ren, co-founder of domestic diamond brand Light Mark Small White Light, said, "Light Mark Small White Light sells 1-carat D-color VS clarity products, which are of very good quality among diamond products. Its price in physical stores is now less than 30,000 yuan, which is very easy to help young people realize carat freedom."

Compared to the serious air pollution and ground damage caused by the process of mining diamonds, diamonds synthesized in a laboratory are far more environmentally friendly. Mining diamonds emits 57,000 grams of harmful carbon per carat, while growing diamonds releases only 0.028 grams per carat. In addition, obtaining a single pull of natural diamonds requires the destruction of up to 1,750 tons of irreparable and long-term uncultivated soil, while cultivating diamonds causes zero damage to the environment, which is more in line with the concept of sustainable development.

In December 2020, the National Jewelry and Jade Quality Supervision and Inspection Center issued a new version of the standard, which clearly called the Chinese name "synthetic diamond" or "laboratory cultivated diamond", and canceled the classification and changed to quality evaluation.

In July 2018, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) decided to remove the word "natural" from its definition of diamonds in its 2018 jewelry guidelines and no longer recommend the use of the term "synthetic" to describe cultivated diamonds. This means that the status of cultivated diamonds is improving, and the difference between them and natural diamonds is further weakened.

From the development stage of the industry, the development opportunity of cultivating the diamond industry has been present, and the turning point is coming: from the perspective of the industry space, cultivating diamonds is not only a partial replacement of natural diamonds, but also De Beers' current guidance of cultivating diamond light luxury product positioning is expected to stimulate a new jewelry consumer market, with a potential market space of 100 billion. From the perspective of competitive pattern, China is the world's largest cultivated diamond producer, the second largest cultivated diamond consumer market, power diamonds, Yellow River cyclone, Zhongbing Hongjian, etc., occupy most of the rough diamond market share. We believe that the development prospect of cultivating diamonds is huge!
